Josh Rice is a multidisciplinary theatre artist, teacher, and rural arts advocate, specializing in puppetry & improvisation. He is full-time Faculty at the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, facilitating workshops using applied improvisation and audience-centered, empathic communication for experts in research, STEM, and medicine. For over a decade, the Alda Center has trained thousands of experts in labs, universities and government, combining research with practice. Josh has developed curriculum for Climate Science Communication, Forensics Communication in Courtrooms, and Communicating Science to Policymakers, among other Custom Curricula. Josh is also the Co-Founder & Producing Artistic Director of Shake on the Lake and the New York State Puppet Festival, a rural-based professional theatre in Perry, NY.
