Thanks to the Sustainable Homes Rochester/HeatSmart Monroe initiatives, I learned how "game changing" geothermal heating and cooling could be for my family, and for my planet! We realized that going geothermal would not only lighten our climate footprint dramatically— it would also improve our comfort substantially by giving us air conditioning, something we never had in 20 years of living in our old home in the City of Rochester.

Speaking of the City--we were thrilled to learn that a geothermal system would be possible despite the tiny size of our urban property.

What’s more, our comfort would extend beyond that provided by the state of the art geothermal system: we would also no longer have flammable, explosive, poisonous, and environmentally unfriendly methane gas in our home.

The combination of state and federal incentives, plus a zero interest loan from New York State, made the decision even more exciting (and smart)!  Two years in, we have cut our monthly heating expense by over 50%, and our “guilt free AC” only costs us about $15-$20 monthly in electric costs during the summer.

We can (and must!) make huge progress in our community and country against the climate crisis with a critical mass of geothermal HVAC systems. A key climate solution is literally in the 55-degree ground under our feet!
