Joanne Scanlon has been an outgoing volunteer with a focus on Solar Energy since 2018. Although she had no prior experience or expertise in renewable energy, when a large scale solar farm in her town that was facing a very vocal, well-funded and organized opposition group her town she quickly learned and led a counter group, Supporters of Horseshoe Solar (SHSS), to build awareness, counter mis/dis-information and support of the project. The project received its Final Permit in December, 2024 and is currently under construction. Joanne is a member of the Climate Solutions Accelerator, serving on the Climate Collective Steering Committee and co-chair of the Collective Energy Strategy Group. Joanne is also a member of the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter. She is a member of the Chapter Energy Group, the Chapter Media team, and the Rochester Regional group.
