Other Ways To Give
Events & Sponsorships
Annual Climate Solutions Summit: Our signature annual climate education event is aimed at bringing together organizational leaders and community members from across the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region to learn how we can collectively take local action. Your support will provide valuable opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds from across our region to connect, engage in new and challenging conversations, and learn from
leaders who they might not otherwise work with. Ultimately, you are investing in a key effort to move local climate solutions forward by helping share knowledge, advance equity, and foster collaboration. Sponsorships help make the Summit possible by supporting scholarships for attendees with financial barriers, as well as covering event expenses, including fees for: venue, food, speakers, accessibility services (e.g. ASL, Spanish), and event promotion.
Fundraise
Do you love hosting parties at home, or creative gatherings after work with your amazing coworkers? Or perhaps you’re a fan of online video hangouts or planning neighborhood events with your neighbors. Whatever your style, you can throw a fundraiser to raise support for our mission and help us engage more people in the local climate movement.
Cause Marketing & Co-Ventures
Elevate your corporate identity and increase your brand exposure while supporting the Climate Solutions Accelerator at the same time! For example, a campaign might agree to contribute $5.00 to the Accelerator for every company product sold; or for every 25 people who vote on a website or attend an event, etc.
For cause marketing campaigns where your partnership contribution is contingent on a participant taking a specific action (like purchasing an item or attending an event, etc.), we’ll work with you to ensure key details about campaign promotions are disclosed (such as the actual or anticipated portion of a purchase will benefit our mission). We do this to ensure transparency in alignment with the New York State guidelines to protect consumers participating in cause marketing campaigns.
Donate Stock
Due to the stock market’s ups and downs, you may wonder if it’s better to sell your stock and donate the proceeds, or donate the shares themselves.
Appreciated stock should be donated, not cashed in. Why? If you’re selling the stock and plan to donate the cash proceeds, you will still be liable for capital gains tax on the appreciation – a needless reduction in the net amount you can give away to make a difference.
If you donate the stock directly, your gift and charitable deduction will be based on the full value of the shares. (Note: Your actual gift amount will be the average of the high and the low of the stock on the date of transfer).
You may want to sell depreciated stock. If you have an investment that has decreased in value and is worth less now than when you purchased it, consider selling it and making a gift of all or a portion of the cash proceeds. Then you can take a capital loss on your tax return, as well as a charitable deduction.
Making a gift of stock is easy. Contact us so we can share our account information with you to give to your broker or financial advisor for the stock to be transferred to Climate Solutions Accelerator’s account. Please call (585) 461-1023 or email hello@climategfl.org and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Leave a Legacy
Make a lasting gift in your will, trust or estate plan to ensure that your commitment to a more sustainable climate for our region and planet continues for generations to come. To discuss the best legacy gift option for you, or to notify us of a legacy gift you have planned, please contact Sam Genovese, our Director of Resource Mobilization, at sam@climategfl.org or (585) 461-1023.
“I look at the Climate Solutions Accelerator as the most valuable information resource in this region of New York, filling the most urgent need for our community: providing an understanding of climate change by filling gaps in information, communication, and education—things taking us on the path towards a world no longer constrained by greenhouse gasses. As a seasoned environmental information specialist who developed several environmental information centers, I know a good thing when I see it!”
— Frederick Stoss MS (zool/ecol), MLS, Monroe County resident and monthly Accelerator donor
