Defend New York’s
Climate Law
New York State Must Not Change the Climate Leadership & Community Protect Act
About the Issue
Governor Hochul has proposed changes to New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) that advocates say would delay climate action, weaken accountability, and make it harder for the state to deliver on its commitments to disadvantaged communities. At stake are critical goals tied to reducing pollution, lowering energy burdens, improving public health, creating clean energy jobs, and building a more affordable and resilient future for New Yorkers.
The CLCPA was designed to move New York off fossil fuels while ensuring the benefits of the clean energy transition reach the communities that need them most. Supporters of the law are calling on state leaders to reject proposed rollbacks and uphold New York’s climate commitments.
Climate Solutions Accelerator Position
The Climate Solutions Accelerator of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region strongly opposes proposed changes that would weaken or delay the CLCPA. New York has long been seen as a climate leader, and this is the moment to prove what that leadership really means. Standing firm on the goals of the CLCPA and implementing them through a strong Cap-and-Invest Program is essential to addressing climate change, energy affordability, public health, and economic development. The future of our state, our region, and the people and communities who call New York home depends on it.
