Color Your School Green

With youth more concerned than ever about climate change (and understandably so, given that they will inherit the future climate), the opportunity and necessity for youth involvement in climate solutions has never been greater.

Thanks to some dedicated, determined young people in our Genesee-Finger Lakes Region, Color Your School Green (CYSG) has been born, to inform, inspire, and engage youth and other people involved with schools in the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region to take impactful climate action in their school and/or school district.

Color Your School Green network meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month on Zoom. They are open to students, parents/guardians, teachers and other school staff, and any member of a school community. For meeting information or if you have any questions about this initiative, contact Brady Fergusson, Director of Public Engagement.

With support (and appreciation!) from Climate Solutions Accelerator, Color Your School Green operates as an important sister initiative of Color Your Community Green, through which the Accelerator supports the development of community-level citizen climate action teams. Color Your School Green’s school-based action teams will:

  • Identify locally relevant, high-impact climate solutions and develop strategies to move those solutions forward using the CYSG “Toolkit” (see below);

  • Advocate for the implementation of environmental justice and equitable climate solutions at the school and community level;

  • Determine the best path forward for their school and community, with support from the Accelerator, fellow CYSG and CYCG teams, and other climate organizations in the region.

CYSG strives to establish school-based youth climate action organizations in as many Genesee/Finger Lakes Region municipalities as possible!

CYSG is guided by the values of respect, inclusion, nonpartisanship, collaboration, and science, and is committed to social, racial, environmental, and intergenerational justice.
